As we discussed last week, despite overwhelming community opposition, the full NY City Council voted in favor of both the Inwood Upzoning and the Union Square Tech Hub. In both cases, the local council member lead this approval. In the case of Inwood, the CM, Ydanis Rodriguez, always seemed to favor the upzoning. However, in the case of the tech hub, that local CM, Carlina Rivera, made it a campaign pledge last year to win this seat that her approval would be contingent on the city putting into place special protections for the contiguous neighborhoods--a pledge she completely disregarded when it came time to vote. With me to discuss this is and what’s next is friend-to-the-show, Andrew Berman, executive director of the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation (GVHSP).
